LYF Summer Internships

Laurel believes very much in the growth and education of those seeking to serve our awesome God. In keeping with the idea of continuing eduation, Laurel Youth Fellowship (LYF) began working with college-aged summer interns in 2009. Our goal is to mutually benefit the interns and the youth program at Laurel. Our philosophy is to allow the interns enough freedom that they can have a true learning experience while giving enough guidelines that they are not completely on their own.

Normally, we hire two interns (one male, one female). Summer internships at Laurel center around finding a rhythm of connection with God in the midst of a busy summer, learning how to serve and walk alongside students, and sharpening the talents God has given so that those talents become spiritual gifts. In addition to the relational side of ministry, interns are responsible for planning a devotional each week of the summer the youth group is in town (about 6), teaching Bible classes, and several other responsibilities along the way. Quotes from Past Interns

"Interning at Laurel was my first internship, and I can definitely say I picked an amazing church to begin with. Laurel was so much fun and so formative in my journey! I hope Laurel continues to host interns and bless the lives of young people. God is working through Laurel, and it is evident."

~Demetrius Parson, Memphis, intern 2020

"My time with Laurel reminded me how precious and valuable the people of God are. Specifically, this youth group cultivates a high view of the Lord and a respected view on the vision for the church. The youth has made loving one another the foundation for their ministry."

~Emily Keeling, Knoxville, intern 2019

"Summer 2020 was one to remember! In the midst of a global pandemic, this group of wonderful students made ministry fun and exciting. No matter what came our way, God showed up and did some remarkable work through the chaos, and I was continuously reminded of His presence and grace. My time spent with Laurel was oh-so sweet, and thankfully, I don't think that anyone got too bad of a mask tan line."

~Ali Grant, Lebanon (TN), intern 2020
